This is the reason that in most states of India, petrol is being sold between 75 to 82 rupees and diesel 66 to 74 rupees liters. This price is decided on the basis of demand and supply at international level. Due to high competition, these prices are not in the hands of Indian companies.
This is Rs 77 to 82 rupees per liter in India after refining the Rs 35.90 per liter petrol, because it includes excise duty of around Rs 19.48, VAT of 16.47 per liter, other tax and dealer commission. All these taxes are also levied on diesel.
