SC Asked Center To Report within 10 days For The Appointment Of Lokpal :

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today asked the Center to fix the deadline for the appointment of Lokpal in the country within 10 days and inform him. A bench of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice R. Bhanumathi told the government that after giving an information of possible steps to be taken for the appointment of Lokpal in the country, should file an affidavit within 10 days. The attorney general of the center K. Venugopal submitted written instructions received from the government regarding the appointment of Lokpal.

The bench has fixed July 17 for the hearing of the case. The court was hearing a contempt plea filed by the NGO Common Cause. In the petition, despite the order of the court of 27th April, 2017, the issue of non-appointment of Lokpal has been raised. The court had said in its decision last year that keeping pending Lokpal law pending until the amended amendments were passed in Parliament is not justified.
